Why is it so Important to Serve St. Louis?

ServeSTL-LogoHey Everyone! We have been telling you the last few weeks in the “Skinny” on Sunday morning to “Save the date of Oct. 8th for Serve St. Louis,” well now we want to give you more details about the who, the why, the what and where, the when and the how of Serve St. Louis 2016.

The Who: Its is people and churches throughout St. Louis coming together to serve the St. Louis Metropolitan area.

The Why: Jesus tells us in Mark 12:30-31 “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” We are ambassadors for Christ and we are told that the only thing greater the loving our neighbors is loving God.  And, part of loving God is loving His people.  And, part of loving His people is helping and relating to His people by doing something not just saying something.

The What/Where: We serve the community through projects and there are projects through out the St. Louis area.  These projects come in many different forms, some are more service oriented and others are more relational oriented. Quest has 4 projects that will give us the opportunity to help our community and love our neighbor.  They are:

  1. Community Garden – North St. Louis City
  2. The Well – South St. Louis City
  3. Soldier’s Wish List – West County
  4. Nursing Home Visit – West County

The When: Saturday, October 8th, 2016…the start times for each project may vary which will be shown in the Project details on the website.

The How: Go to www.servestlouis.org, click “Projects”, select “Quest Church” from the Host list and click “Find Projects”.  Then select a project and sign up…it’s that easy.

Oh! One last thing…The Team! If you have questions about a specific project or would like to help organize, then contact Jess Brown and/or Taylor Blake for “Soldier’s Wish List”; Mel Brown and/or Jen Chapman about “Community Garden” project; Rick Murphy about “The Well” project; Steve Hicks about the “Nursing Home Visit” project.

Please sign up early! And let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in Heaven.

Peace,

Steve
