We’re Called to Serve Our City

Jeremiah 29:7 tells us,

But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.

God calls on us to welfare of the city where we live.  He wants us to make sure people in our community are safe, have food and shelter.  This is because, for God, His people are worthy and life is precious.  He created us in His image, male and female. He created us for His glory and for His purpose.  Right now, our sermon series is teaching us that God loves all of us and the value each one of us has is equal – from the unborn to the elderly, from the infirm to the orphan.  He loves all of us in our many different shapes, sizes and colors.  That’s the beauty of God’s creation: He loves us all – both because of our similarities (created in His image) and our differences.

In Matthew 22:37-39, Jesus answers the question of what the greatest commandment is:

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.  This is the great and first commandment.  And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

The outreach and mission ministry of Quest is Quest Beyond.  Our hope is to honor Jesus’ instruction and be a church going BEYOND our walls and a people going BEYOND ourselves to share the Hope of Christ while serving our community and our world.

One of the ways Quest seeks the welfare of our city and to love our neighbor is through our partnership with New City Fellowship. This is a St. Louis City ministry that hosts a Work Day that Quest takes part of.  The Work Day ministries mission is

Connecting God’s people, the church, with the opportunities to manifest His love in the city of St. Louis.  We are showing God’s love to the poor, widowed, orphans, immigrants, and refugees in this great city.

Quest will be participating in New City Fellowship’s next workday on Saturday, February 11th from 8 am – 2 pm and you are invited to come on out and be a part of this awesome opportunity to serve others.  We will meet at New City Fellowship, located at 1483 82nd Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63132. Be sure to bring a bottle of water, a lunch and work gloves. You’ll also want to dress in layers.
