The sign in front of our building suggests that the name of our church is Quest and the nature of our church is that we are “a people in and for the community”. That actually is exactly what we are aiming to be and to become. In the 29th chapter of the Old Testament, in book of Jeremiah, the prophet speaks on behalf of God to encourage the Jews who have been exiled to Babylon. They were facing the challenge of living in a totally pagan culture, among people who are not very welcoming. Their tendency would have been to hunker down and simply survive, the predicted, 70 years of their captivity. It promised to be a difficult season for several generations.
However, God had a different plan. He wanted the Jews to live above their circumstances. He did not want them to be discouraged or defeated. In fact, not only did He want them to get on with life and all the things that come with family, marriage, children and work, but He want them to engage and love the very people who had become their captors. He also wanted the Jews to invest time and effort praying for the Babylonians. You see, the Babylonians did not know the one true God of creation. So the Jews were to pray for them since they could not pray for themselves. Bottom line… the Jews were to seek the welfare of their community.
On December 1st, we are hosting a community event here at Quest. We are aiming to develop relationships with those in our community who may not have a connection to a church or people of faith. We are working at developing trust with the people of Wildwood and those who live around us.
We are going to use Elf – a very fun, Christmas themed movie – to gather the people of Quest, along with the people of Wildwood, to share a little good will and seek their welfare.
So, kick your Christmas season off right and join us the evening of Friday, December 1st for the movie! Doors will open at 6:30pm, and the movie starts at 7pm. Seats are first come, first serve! We’ll have the counter loaded with popcorn, candy and drinks for everyone. We hope that you’ll take this opportunity and invite some friends and neighbors! You can grab invite cards at Quest on Sunday or even share the event on Facebook!
If you’d be willing to help with the event (welcoming, attending to the snack bar and/or clean up), please talk to Beth Sinak.
Please be aware that the movie is rated PG for mild, rude humor and language.
