Day of Compassion

Sunday, January 17th, 2016 is Sanctity of Human Life Sunday.  It is a day for everyone to focus on the value of human life. As we consider what that means, may we do it from a place of love and compassion.  So, what is the value of life?  What is its purpose? Are we just blobs of matter somehow riding on a rock called Earth that travels approximately 67,000 mph around the sun while spinning 1,000 mph? The answer to that last question is no! You see, God has a plan and purpose for life, as He is the author of life.  He values each and every life, as we are created in His image.  He celebrates life and we, as the body, celebrate life as well.  But the reality is that there are, in our community and around the world, women who have an unexpected pregnancy or women who are hurting from an abortion experience, and they don’t know where to turn.  Through His love, mercy and forgiveness God wants them to turn to Him.  This is about giving compassion and not giving judgment. This is about showing forgiveness not laying blame. This is about coming alongside women and families facing these challenges so they can find hope and healing through the Love of Christ.  That’s why we value our relationship with Thrive.  Their ministry comes alongside women to help them through the challenges of an untimely pregnancy or the hurting they experience from a past abortion.

thrive_puStarting Sunday, January 17th and ending Sunday, February 7th, Quest will host a Baby Shower drive to help support Thrive and their Parent University ministry.  Parents that participate in the program need help with many things.  They receive training on how to parent and to care for a newborn.  Also, with the joy of knowing their baby will soon be arriving, they also realize that they will need all the supplies to help care and protect their little one.  This is where we are stepping in to help and stock the shelves with as many items as we can to support the expecting moms and Thrive.  You can find the list on our below, in the lobby on Sundays and this Sunday we will hand out a list of acceptable items as service closes.  If you have any questions or want to find out about Thrive Parent University volunteer opportunities, then please contact Dee Wilkinson.

So, as we focus on the value of human life, let’s do it with the Love of Christ and a compassion that reflects God’s mercy and forgiveness.

 Peace,
Steve
