Last year we proclaimed that Church is a Party!!! This year we are going one more step to proclaim that Church is a Pool Party!!!!
If you remember last year, we reflected on the reality that Church is supposed to be a people and a place where people are celebrated because they have inherent value because they are the object of God’s affections. Church is a people and a place where we can begin to experience the love of God through His revealed truth in the Scriptures and through His people, a people who have been called by His name and transformed into brand new creatures and conformed into His character. It is a place for people who have never had a party that celebrates who they are and rejoices over Christ’s redemptive love on a cross that offers each and every one of us forgiveness and newness of life.
Even better than that, Church is a Pool Party… a place where we can rejoice in the newness of life offered by Christ and proclaimed by baptism. This Sunday, we will be rejoicing in the transformative love of Christ as several people will proclaim to the world that they have unidentified themselves with Christ. They have died to self just like Christ gave Himself up for us. They have also been raised by the power of Christ just like He was raised from the dead and into newness of resurrection life. Christians have been throwing Pool Parties for over 2000 years, and we will join them in celebrating what God has done in the lives of those who have chosen to be baptized.
So come, celebrate and PARTY with us! Bring a chair to sit in, a side dish or dessert to share and pool gear if you want to jump in after the baptisms! It’s gonna be a warm one!
