When The Rains Come… Again

The Post-Dispatch recently reported,

St. Louis’ rain totals for June came in at historic levels. Measurements taken at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport had 13.14 inches for the month. That’s about nine inches above normal.”

Some forecasts suggest the rest of the summer will have above normal rain also. We had no idea that this would be true when we titled our series on II Corinthians “When the Rains Come”…and you need to know that we are not responsible for the resulting rain either… we guess it is just one of those things that line up in the providence of God in the universe.

For the next three weeks, we are going back to finish up chapters 6 and 7 of “When the Rains Come…Again.”  These chapters will put a wrap on our understanding of how to live in the midst of societal, moral and interpersonal conflict with the central quality of being instruments of expressing the ‘comfort’ of God to others, having experienced ourselves. We are called to be co-workers with God in the redemptive process in people’s lives. That is a wild thought… we get to be His apprentices in learning and investing in the work of lives being redeemed by the heart of God. Corinthian’s author, the apostle Paul, will encourage us to get involved, but he will also warn us that the work will not be easy. It is full of dangers, challenges and pitfalls. The cost will be significant. However, throughout our lives, we will invest all that we have in something… so investing in the kingdom of Christ here, and in eternity, might well be the wisest thing we could ever do. I can’t wait to see what God will do with His word in our lives and in the life of our church, our homes and in our community. See you Sunday.

Your bro,
Kevin
